He lives with his wife Morgan, and their three daughters. His commitment to family and community guides the way he leads the Sheriff’s Office every day.
Scottie began his career with the Clark County Sheriff’s Office in 2004 as a Corrections Officer. Through hard work, dedication, and commitment to public service, he rose through the ranks serving as Corporal, Sergeant, Detective, Captain, Lt. Colonel, Colonel, Chief Deputy, and ultimately being elected Sheriff. Throughout his career, he has worked in nearly every area of the agency, including investigations involving property crimes, crimes against persons, and crimes against children.
Those years of experience gave Scottie a deep understanding of the responsibilities of law enforcement and the importance of earning the trust of the community.
But beyond the badge, Scottie believes the future of our community depends on investing in our young people.
Scottie has always been a strong supporter of local schools, athletic teams, and academic programs across Clark County. His support can be seen throughout the community - from sponsoring sports equipment and school programs to helping support after-prom events and youth activities.
Each year he participates in events like the Clark County 4-H Fair and many other community programs that bring families together.
He is also proud to support the Clark County Youth Shelter, helping provide resources and support for young people in need.
Scottie believes strong communities are built when leaders show up, stay involved, and invest in the next generation.
He is not perfect, but he promises to work hard every day to make Clark County safer and to earn the trust and support of the people he serves.

Since taking office, Sheriff Maples has worked to bring greater professionalism, transparency, and accountability to the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.
These changes are part of a broader effort to ensure the Clark County Sheriff’s Office remains professional, accountable, and focused on serving the people of this county.

Leadership is often defined by how someone responds when things are difficult.
For many years, Scottie was a supporter and friend of former Sheriff Jamey Noel. Like many in the community, he trusted him. Over time they had differences on certain issues, but when Scottie assumed the office of Sheriff it quickly became clear there were things happening within the agency that had been kept from him.
When Scottie uncovered information that appeared to be criminal in nature, he did what the people of Clark County deserve from their Sheriff - he immediately contacted the Indiana State Police and requested an investigation.
No one should ever be above the law.
Like many people throughout Clark County, Scottie was disappointed and felt betrayed by what had taken place. But his responsibility as Sheriff was not to ignore the problem or protect anyone. His responsibility was to the people of this county and to restoring trust in the office.
Since that time, Scottie has worked every day to rebuild what was taken and to ensure safeguards are in place so something like that could never happen again.
Today, the Clark County Sheriff’s Office operates with greater transparency and oversight. Key members of the command staff have access to financial records and decision-making processes, and the Sheriff’s Office regularly provides updates and reports to the County Council so the public can see exactly how resources are being used.
Scottie believes the Sheriff should answer to the people, and that public trust must be earned every single day.
Scottie Maples has spent his entire career serving the people of Clark County. As Sheriff, he has worked to restore professionalism, strengthen transparency, and rebuild trust in the Sheriff’s Office.
But the work of protecting a community is never finished.
Scottie believes leadership means showing up - every day - for the families who call Clark County home, for the deputies who serve with honor, and for the community that deserves a Sheriff they can trust.
With your support, Scottie Maples will continue building a stronger, safer Clark County.
